Memberships

The Alberta Kennel Club is an all-breed dog club operating as a non-profit organization since 1904 under the auspices of the Canadian Kennel Club. Our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month (except August), starting at 7:00 pm. Our members support and enjoy a variety of canine interests and activities. We encourage and invite those with an interest in purebred dogs and community involvement to join.

Membership Year

Club membership begins on November 1 and ends on October 31.

Types of Memberships

There are three types of memberships:

  • Ordinary Membership
Any person(s), resident in Alberta, who has made application for membership, whose application has been approved by the Executive and who have paid the membership fee prescribed. Each Ordinary Membership is entitled to one vote.

  • Associate Membership
Open to those who don’t meet the requirements of Ordinary Membership or are unable to participate actively in the Club but nevertheless declare an intention to pursue the stated purpose of the Club. Associate Memberships have no voting rights.

  • Honourary membership
The Club may, at any Annual General Meeting, elect Honourary members by a unanimous vote of the members present. A notice of intention to propose the name(s) of any intended Honourary member(s) shall have been given at the previous monthly general meeting by the member(s) making the proposal and each proposed Honourary member must signify in writing, at least ten (10) days prior to the Annual General Meeting of their acceptance to stand for such proposed Honourary membership in the Club. Honourary Members are not required to pay annual fees but shall enjoy all rights and privileges of Ordinary Members.

Who We Are

More than 100 years old, the Alberta Kennel Club is an all-breed dog club that was founded in 1904 by a group of Sporting Dog enthusiasts. The Alberta Kennel Club is one of the oldest continually operated kennel clubs in Canada with a modest membership of approximately 50 individuals.

Our shows are 100% volunteer driven. We greatly appreciate everyone who contributes to our Club and events. You are the people who make us successful!

What We Do

The purpose of the Alberta Kennel Club is to promote the betterment and welfare of purebred dogs by encouraging responsible breeding and ownership as well as sportsmanlike conduct.

To acheive this multifaceted purpose, the Alberta Kennel Club actively sponsors organizations that conduct pet visitations and breeder referrals, and has been holding dog shows for more than 30 years. The Alberta Kennel Club is proud to host Canada’s largest outdoor dog show.
